Wild Roses

Ewa leaves the hospital and returns to her hometown, where she had left her two children-a rebellious daughter named Marysia, who is about to take her first communion, and a little boy named Jaś-in the care of her mother (Halina Rasiaknin). Their father (Michał Żurawski) works in Norway, and so the burden of running the house falls to Ewa, who has a teenage admirer named Marcel (Konrad Skolimowski). Will something happen between them among the eponymous wild roses? The role of Ewa is played by the outstanding Marta Nieradkiewicz (Floating Skyscrapers, Kamper), who had worked previously with the director of Wild Roses, Anna Jadowska, in her film Out of Love. Her latest work, dedicated to the memory of her mother, was filmed in Lower Silesia near Oleśnica, her family home. Featuring the poetic cinematography of Małgorzata Szyłak (Communion), this family drama, which takes a close look at the often unattainable social expectations facing women, raises fundamental questions about the nature of the parent-child relationship and the essence of motherhood.
