Ruben Östlund’s "The Square" at the 17th T-Mobile NH IFF

Cannes Awards: "The Square" Wins Palme d’Or Marcin Pieńkowski as a member of The Romanian Days jury

What connects the handsome curator of a museum in Stockholm, an American journalist, a little boy who was wrongly accused of stealing, and an artist pretending to be a monkey?

This hit comedy by the maker of the cult film Force Majeure enchanted the jury at Cannes, which was led by Pedro Almodóvar, Maren Ade, Paolo Sorrentino, and Park Chan-wook. Polish audiences will have their first chance to see the film, which took home a Palme d’Or on the French Riviera, during the 17th T-Mobile New Horizons International Film Festival in Wrocław (3-13 August). Here's what Almodóvar had to say about the film: Fantastic imagination! An incredibly funny movie! I could watch it endlessly. The Square is an original, unorthodox, and brilliant film that cannot be pigeon-holed in any way whatsoever. Tadeusz Sobolewski wrote in the daily Gazeta Wyborcza that Ostlund's outstanding film is insanely funny and relentlessly self-deferential. The Swedish director's satire is something that Buñuel himself would have been proud to put his name. Starring Dominic West, Elisabeth Moss, and Claes Bang, the film is distributed by Gutek Film.
