Shortlist is a short list of Polish short films. The section will feature the work of a number of young Polish filmmakers who have boldly shared their voices and their sensitivity, who are searching for expressive forms of narration, and who have been shaping their personal styles.
We have selected 18 short features, documentaries, and animations that were made mainly at the film schools in Lódź, Katowice, and Gdynia, as well as the Munk Studio. These will include Aleksandra Terpińska’s directorial masterpiece, the part-existential, part-hipster The Best Fireworks Ever (an award winner at Cannes); Edyta Rembała’s subtly illustrated and photographed Pola; Renata Gąsiorowska’s liberated Pussy; Arkadiusz Biedrzycki’s suspenseful and intelligentlyunderstated The Frog King; Jakub Radej’s cool and consistent Dust; Maciej Jankowski’s lifestyle documentary We Get Along Beautifully; as well as Monika Kotecka and Karolina Poryzała’s visually refined story about a girl's strength, Volte. We have three sets of diverse Polish cinema to look forward to, and we will have an opportunity to discuss each film at length at meetings with the filmmakers that will accompany the screenings.
